The hat is made of nubby black fabric and it forms the crown into a cap. There is a wide brim attached to the crown at one side asymmetrically. The fabric is draped around the brim and gathered at the center, creating a beautiful shape. This hat is to be worn tilted to one side, partially covering one eye. There is a magnificent yellow ostrich feather projecting forwards. There is an elastic band attached to the inside of the hat to help keep it in place under the hair. This look is simply stunning! Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
