1930。This is a glorious navy straw cart wheel, or platter hat from the fashionable 1950s\'! The short and flat top crown is surrounded by a very large brim which is wider at the front, then tapers towards the back. The cross is trimmed with a navy grosgrain band which ends in a bow at the back. There is an elastic band attached to the inside of the hat to help keep it in place.
Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety & extravagance. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble. Alternatively, ‘pancake’, ‘mushroom’ or ‘cart wheel’ hats sat flat atop the head reviving turn of the century styles.
Label; NEW YORK CREATION + Store Label; MC CURDY\'S of Rochester
The N York Dress Institute was formed in 1941 as a joint venture between the clothing manufacturers of New York City & the ILGWU. The label was created by well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous & wanted to support the New York Creation label & keep it competitive with French styles of the era. The label is small, white and blue & most of the time it states the hat size…22 or 23, or ADJUSTABLE.
This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Due to age, feathers, straw, furs, flowers & veils are fragile. Mannequin not for sale.
